COATESVILLE – The Alliance for Health Equity is pleased to welcome Mr. Nicholas Torres, MEd as its first Chief Operating Officer (COO) effective February 1, 2022. Nick, having over 25 years of experience in executive management, works at the crossroads between the private, government and non-profit sectors to align them for collective social impact and public policy change. Nick has led and founded several for-profit and non-profit social enterprises that are driven by both social impact and financial sustainability metrics. Some of his launched social enterprises include charter schools, an early literacy technology platform, school health centers and community satellite college sites.
He brings a wealth of experience in providing governance and fiduciary support to the Network: Towards Unity for Health (TUFH), an official WHO non-state actor. He is also a co-founder of Social Innovations Partners which publishes the Social Innovations Journal and incubates and launches high impact social sector models and businesses through the Social Innovations Lab Process. He teaches nonprofit leadership, social policy, and social entrepreneurship at the University of Pennsylvania.
Nick has worked with the Alliance as a Strategic Collective Impact Advisor and helped shape one of its strategic priorities, Integrated Services; Help people live healthy and well. As the new Chief Operating Officer, Nick will be responsible for driving meaningful social impact by co-designing and strategically deploying the operational infrastructure needed to support the Alliance as it continues to chart its course in the changing landscape of the philanthropy. As a thought partner to the CEO, he will be responsible for facilitating change and growth across the continuum of mission-aligned investing, fundraising and implementing his strategic priorities while driving an aligned, integrated and accountable organizational culture.
“At this point in my career, having the opportunity to further the mission of the Alliance for Health Equity, allows me to lead with my passion and that is to create transformative models that uplift communities economically and socially disadvantaged,” Torres said. “The Alliance’s focus on equity in place gives me the opportunity to serve in that capacity.”
The Board and staff of the Alliance for Health Equity look forward to collaboratively enhancing the impact of their work through Nick’s insight and experience within the nonprofit sector.
