Amarillo Panhandle Humane Society Employee Adopts Long-Time Shelter Dog | KAMR
AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR / KCIT) – A dog who spent one of the longest stays in history at the Amarillo Panhandle Humane Society now has a forever home thanks to one of the APHS members .
“I just thought we were really fulfilled, then I realized once I got her home, what we were missing,” said Shannon Ellis, of the Amarillo Panhandle Humane Society.
Who Ellis is referring to is Prada. One of their own shelter dogs that they have been in charge of since August.
“I would continually urge her to rescue, continually saying that she is such a good dog. She is my favorite. Someone is taking him. We posted it on our page for someone to adopt over and over again and no one took it away. So I had to make a decision after the decision of what was going to happen because they don’t have unlimited time at the shelter, ”said Ellis.
Around this time, Ellis developed a close relationship with Prada.
“I don’t want to leave her here and it got harder and harder each time I had to put her back. I took her to my office and then I had to take her back to her kennel and I had to go. Then on the way home I was crying and I was like she couldn’t stay there anymore. It just shot in my heart that she needed to find a home, ”Ellis said.
This house would be with Ellis. The adoption was formalized just a few days ago.
“I took her home and she jumped out of the car and she just ran outside. She just jumped onto my couch and lay down. That’s it, right here. This is my home, ”Ellis said.
Ellis says that for those looking to adopt a new pet from a shelter, they should keep an open mind because she never thought they would bring another dog.
